Voyages du Geste nº 7

The project of Voyage du Geste7: Looking for a Spring was launched yesterday in France. It is a project building on a 12-year partnership within the “Voyages du Geste” network and consisting of a 16-day interdisciplinary performing arts residency to build the artistic and human capacities of 20 young performance artists from 5 Euro-Mediterranean countries. The residency will be held in Lebanon and will be jointly run by trainers from the partner associations, in a multicultural artistic and non-academic context. Participants and trainers will engage in a common reflection around the theme “Looking for a Spring”, raising questions such as: What is Revolution? What is Rebirth? What is Democracy? Through different artistic expressions.

Voyages Du Geste 1 was initiated by Association Trisunic – Collectif Subito Presto in France with funding from EU, from PACA Region and Avignon European Capital of Culture for 50 young people from Lebanon, Palestine, Belgium, Italy and France.

In the beginning, the trainers will engage in a 1-week exchange to discuss methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches to be integrated in the residency, then hold an organizational meeting to finalize the preparations. During the residency, the artists will attend training workshops in different Performing Arts disciplines (Alexander technique, voice, storytelling, puppets, movement, improvisation, music etc.) to create scenes around the proposed theme. At the end of the project, a trilingual book about the 6 previous residencies and other “Voyages du Geste” projects will be published to share this collaborative model and the experiences gained from it with a wider audience.

Khayal Asscoaition, Lebanon the leader of the project in partnership with AL-Harah Theater in Palestine, Association Trisunic – Collectif Subito Presto in France, Propositário Azul, Associação Artística in Portugal and Associazione Teatrale Còrai in Italy launched the project of Voyage du Geste 7: Looking for a Spring on 17 of Feb 2013 in France.

Voyage du Geste is a unique opportunity for young performing artists at the beginning of their professional career. The Project will contribute to increasing the employment rate of young performance artists in the Euro-Mediterranean region: with a market that’s becoming more and more competitive, capacity building and networking are the key factors that can open up new job opportunities for performance artists. It will also build the capacities of young performance artists from Euro-Mediterranean countries within a Multicultural and interdisciplinary context.

The project is unique as it:

• • Builds on the long experience of the Voyages du Geste network in a Euro-Mediterranean collaboration based on mutual respect.

  • Brings together –among others – young Palestinians and Lebanese artists in Lebanon overcoming border restrictions.

  • Is based on an interdisciplinary experimental artistic approach.

  • Supports the mobility of young artists from different Euro- Mediterranean countries

  • Will enable young performance artists to go through interdisciplinary artistic work together using five different languages and sharing 5 different cultural experiences to voice their opinions of how they want their future to be and what is the change they want to see in their countries.
